One of the principles of the BBC has been to provide
programmes for minority interests. This documentary looks at BBC Radio 2, which
was founded in 1967 in the major reorganization which saw the replacement of
the old Home/Light/Third programmes with the Radion 1, 2, 3 and 4 which survive to this day. The
documentary looks at some Radio 2 shows such as Listen to the Band, The Best
of Jazz, The Organist Entertains (1969-2018), and The Folk show.
Would a commercial radio station have produced this kind of programme ? Is
this an appropriate use of public money ? These are the questions raised.
