I got to the end of the topic of multiculturalism (although I may come back to it). You will find here the powerpoint I used in class. Most of it is illustration  - there is little text; this is deliberate. Still, it might help you revise when it is time to do so.

This video was of a programme in which a Black British family of the 21st century "travelled back in time" to discover what life was like fifty years and more ago for Black immigrants to Britain.

Captain Cook agrégation anglais 2020 option civilisation post 43: from facebook

On this day 18th January 1778 English navigator Captain James Cook became the first European to visit the Hawaiian Islands. He named them the Sandwich Islands, after Lord Sandwich, who was then first Lord of the Admiralty. Capatian Cook had associations with Whitby as a merchant navy apprentice and there is a monument to him at the top of the town.

A statue of James Cook stands in Waimea, Kauai commemorating his first contact with the Hawaiian Islands at the town's harbour in January 1778.

Captain Cook agrégation anglais 2020 option civilisation post 42 : Indispensable university lecture

I do understand that, since the written exams are looming, people are concentrating on the subjects for these, and will no doubt be spending more time later on Captain Cook. this is one of the reason I will be posting here recordings of the classes, to be listened to again in April! I am also continuing with various videos and podcasts. This lecture in French by a historian is indispensable, I would say. The beginning in particular is good - later it becomes a little descriptive.

I found myself noting on  a piece of paper this morning

"M2 exam : marked and handed in
Agrégation exam: marked and handed out".

And I wondered if my students would have understood the little note, and/ or be able to do an explanatory translation into French...

Captain Cook agrégation anglais 2020 option civilisation post 41 Tahitian nose flute
