Agrégation Irish history

To understand the Home Rule question, it will be useful to know some of the main political figures in Ireland at the time. Quite recently an Irish television channel asked people to vote for "Ireland's Greatest Figure". Supporters of different candidates were commissioned to write a documentary on the life of their hero. Colloque: Comment la chanson populaire communique-t-elle ?

En collaboration avec l’International Association for the Study of Popular Music, branche francophone d’Europe.

Parmi les questions les plus fructueuses posées par la recherche en musique populaire, on trouve des questions en apparence extrêmement simples. « Pourquoi les chansons ont-elles des paroles ?» demandait Simon Frith (Frith 2009), et dans un autre article influent, « Pourquoi la musique énerve-t-elle autant les gens ?» (Frith 2008). Le présent colloque voudrait explorer la question suivante : « Comment la chanson populaire communique-t-elle » Toutes les approches sont les bienvenues, et les propositions peuvent être basées sur toute aire linguistique et toute période historique. Les éléments expliqués ci-dessous ne sont à prendre que comme des orientations possibles.

Stéphane Hirschi (Hirschi 2001) a présenté le chanteur/artiste comme composé de trois éléments différents apparents : L’artiste, son personnage-sur-scène et le « canteur » ou narrateur de la chanson spécifique. Dans une chanson, le narrateur ne possède pas seulement un point de vue, un positionnement, un style d’écriture, mais aussi (au moins) une qualité de voix, une diction, et une musique qui l’accompagne. Chacun des trois éléments artiste/personnage/narrateur peut être visible en même temps, en palimpseste, et ils peuvent se trouver en harmonie ou en tension créative. Ils entrent tous dans le processus de communication.

Philip Tagg (2012, chapitre 6) se plaint de ce que l’étude de la chanson populaire n’ait pas suffisamment pris en compte la situation de celui ou celle qui « écoute », se limitant souvent à une étude des mécanismes de création. La question posée dans ce colloque peut permettre de combler partiellement cette lacune. Chacun des éléments de la triade de Hirschi peut donner lieu à des phénomènes d’identification ou de participation de la part du public.

Alan Moore (2012, chapitre 7) traite des différents positionnements que peut choisir l’auditeur en rapport avec le récit qui se déploie dans la chanson. L’organisateur du présent colloque a développé l’idée de la chanson populaire comme « théâtre participatif » où l’activité de l’auditeur (qui peut devenir « co-chanteur » et « co-narrateur ») lui permet de jouer, pendant quelques minutes, un rôle peu présent dans sa vie par ailleurs (Mullen 2017).

Tout comme le ou les narrateurs dans certains poèmes modernistes (pensez à La Terre Vaine de T.S.  Eliot), un narrateur dans une chanson peut être mouvant ou multiple. Les deux narrateurs de « Don’t You Want Me, Baby » de The Human League ou le narrateur changeant dans « Peggy Sue » analysée par Bradby et Torode (1984) permettent de présenter des histoires émotionnelles complexes.

Les différents genres musicaux ont souvent un narrateur typique ou classique. Le cow-boy sardonique d’une partie de la production country, la voix du loser dans les chansons punks, le poète philosophe du rock progressif ou le jeune homme confiant et dragueur du rock n roll ... À quel point de tels narrateurs sont-ils obligatoires pour un genre musical donné ? Ces contraintes de genre peuvent-elles être contournées ? Les narrateurs peuvent être collectifs. Les groupes musicaux peuvent-ils être considérés comme constituant des narrateurs ?  Il n'est pas rare que des groupes à la longévité parfois impressionnante renouvellent une grande partie de leurs membres, et pourtant leur public considère souvent qu'il s'agit du même groupe.

Comment la narration est-elle reçue par ses divers publics ? Les narrateurs sont bien plus courants dans bien des genres de musique populaire que les narratrices. Est-ce que les femmes reçoivent ces narrations de la même façon que les hommes ?

Enfin, on peut travailler sur le rôle de la communication qui se met en plus autour du produit vendu : le storytelling, le marketing et d’autres éléments similaires.

De nombreuses questions peuvent surgir de ces situations de communication. Nous n’avons indiqué ici que quelques-unes.
