Must be
1) Research based on a corpus of documents from the 1970s.
2) So not a general essay on a topic, but a modest new contribution.
3) The research paper will be 1500 - 1700 words in length, in addition to the bibliography and appendices.
4) It must be connected to the topic of the seminar: "Social and Cultural Change in the UK in the 1970s"
An essential resource is http://scholar.google.fr/schhp?hl=en which allows you to search university articles, some of which are available free online.
Don’t forget the University Library database which you can access through your University Virtual Deskstop (ENT). This also includes many articles you can download even when you are at home.
Handwritten work is not allowed. The research paper must be sent by email in RTF format, and must use correctly the normal rules of layout for university work (footnotes, italics etc). My email adress is prenom.nom @univ-rouen.fr (John Mullen).
Here are a few examples of research papers from previous years:
1. Fashion in Spare Rib in the 1970s
2. The TV series Love thy neighbour - the relationship between the two women
3. 1970s Board Games and Society
4. The representation of 1970s teenage girls in Jackie and Fabulous 208.
5. The representation of mental illness in 1970s women's movement magazines.
6. The Question of Contraception in Spare Rib in the 1970s

Sitcoms
Any sitcom which has at least ten episodes available on YouTube could be a source for your work. It is important to watch full episodes and not short extracts.
The
Good Life
On the Buses
Love Thy Neighbour
Man About the House
Other TV programmes.
Again, one would need at least ten episodes to make a corpus. It is important to watch full episodes and not short extracts.
