Britain since 1945 : the nineteen seventies. History podcast.

You can find by clicking here my lecture on the nineteen seventies in Britain. "The Glam, disco, punk and metal years" according to one commentator. "When the lights went out" according to a recent book title, referring to the power cuts resulting from the mass miners' strikes.

In any case, the nineteen seventies saw the end of the post-war boom, mass industrial conflict at Saltley Gates or over the imprisonment of the Pentonville Five, the deepening of the crisis in Northern Ireland after Bloody Sunday, and the transformation of the Conservative Party with the election to its leadership of Margaret Thatcher.
