L3 Britain since 1945: Exposés and marking
L3 exposés
Each student will do an “exposé” in class in the form of a commentary on a passage from your booklet. All students should prepare each text, so that they will be able to ask intelligent questions after the exposé.
Students who were absent last week must also sign up for a date and a document.

Afin de permettre au Bressan de courir pour la fête
patronale de son village, Busard accepta de travailler, le premier dimanche de
septembre, de huit heures du matin à dix heures du soir. Le paysan n’avait pas
encore vendu son vélo ; la chose était donc possible et lui vaudrait la gloire
cantonale, à quoi il tenait le plus après l’argent. Il ne croyait pas s’être rouillé.
La conversation qu’ils eurent à ce sujet, quinze jours
plus tôt, fut la première depuis qu’ils travaillaient en équipe. Ils ne se
saluaient même pas au moment de la relève, se donnant juste des indications
concernant le travail.
« Il y a des saloperies dans le mélange aujourd’hui.
Je n’en finis pas d’ôter des tétons. J’ai réclamé. Fais du foin ! »
Aussitôt sorti de l’atelier, le Bressan rentrait chez les
parents de Busard qui lui faisaient pension pour 500 francs par jour, comme il
avait été convenu. Il cassait la croûte sans dire un mot, puis se retirait dans
sa chambre, qui était aussi celle de Busard. Même machine, même lit, les deux
garçons eussent été dans la plus grande intimité du monde, si jamais ils
avaient eu l’occasion de se rencontrer.
Avant de s’étendre sur le lit, le Bressan ne manquait
jamais d’examiner quelque détail de la place de la Concorde en corne,
chef-d’œuvre du père Busard, posée sur la table du fils. Elle avait été
sculptée au tour et à la fraiseuse, d’après une carte postale. Tout y était,
même les chaînes autour de l’obélisque, les voitures et les autobus dans le
sens giratoire, les feux rouge, jaune et vert, qu’on pouvait allumer tour à
tour, en appuyant sur un bouton, également en corne, et le sergent de ville de
service au coin de la rue Royale.
